December News

Here is what we're up to this month:

Language Arts- We are on Tmittens1.gifheme 4 "Family and Friends" during our foundational skills time. Continue to review Spelling and High Frequency words during this theme. We will have pre-tests on Monday, and post-tests on Friday. Spelling and high frequency words go home in your child's red Homework folder on Mondays.

Math- We are composing, decomposing, and adding numbers in Unit 4 of Swun Math. We've also started the Facts Wise program to master automaticity in addition/subtraction facts. Practice addition and subtraction math facts daily. Your child will take home any new Facts Wise goal practice sheets on Mondays.

Special Celebrations- We will learn about Chanukah from a parent volunteer, and will also have a Room 13 celebration of the various cultures represented in our classroom. The class celebration will be on Friday, December 20. Please check upcoming emails for more details.

If you can't find a hard copy of the Weekly Reading Log, Spelling List, or High Frequency Words in your child's red Homework folder, you can also download it from the "Locker" section, on the left side of this web page!

Meet the Teacher

profile pic.jpgI am very excited to be part of the Davis staff! This year is only my second at Davis Magnet, but I have taught Kindergarten, first, and third grades in the district for several years. Prior to this, I spent 6 years as a TOSA (Teacher on Special Assignment) for NMUSD's after-school programs. I am enjoying the daily interactions with kids and parents. It's a blast being back in the classroom!

I received my BA in Psychology with a minor in Child Development from Cal State Fullerton (which also happens to be our "classroom college"), and my Master's in Education at Pepperdine University. I also earned an Administrative Credential through UC Irvine's credentialing program. I've been married for 11 years, and have 3 children who keep me on my toes. Between my first graders at school and my children at home, there's never a dull moment!

I'm looking forward to an amazing year with my new Davis Magnet School family. The dedication and support the Davis community pours into the school and its teachers are something of a marvel. I'm grateful to be part of such a wonderful group of educators and families, and look forward to a year of academic achievement and learning.
