We Love our PTA!

Davis Magnet school has the best PTA! Be sure to join and even have extended family members and/or friends join the PTA. Each membership goes towards supporting the learning environment at our school! Forms are in the front office.

Room 9 scholars are committed to doing our best! We know that achieving excellence involves more than just thinking about it, but requires a plan. Therefore, this year your scholars will be setting goals and working to achieve them- daily, weekly, monthly, and throughout the year!

We are college bound! 2018-2019 5th graders are set to graduate college in 2030. Davis Magnet School encourages students to be life-long learners. We encourage students to set attainable goals, do their best, and achieve!

*It is important to keep open communication in order to support your child’s progress and growth. We can best be reached through Bloomz or by email at aivey@nmusd.us and rsteiner@nmusd.us.

September at a Glance

Accelerated Reader (AR) reading goals will be set during the first weeks of school. Talk to your child about the books they are reading. Do informal "book talks" to help review what they read. Visit Renaissance Learning to view your child’s progress. You can click the link above or go to our class website and click on the Accelerated Reader/Math link under “Websites to Visit.”

We are focusing on Reading With Meaning in 3rd grade! We will spend a good amount of time discussing what good readers do, how they choose books, use their schema, and make connections to their schema while reading.

Room 9 students write every day!  We will begin the year with a focus on narrative writing. Our goal is to develop sentences, from simple to great, adding sensory descriptors and details. Students will learn strategies and skills from selecting a topic all the way to seeing a draft through to publication.

Students learn spelling patterns and strategies each week.

We are exploring volume and surface area throughout September.

Look for math facts goals coming home in communication folders daily. Students should be practicing 5-10 minutes each night.

We will explore science in the Science Lab and in the classroom as well!

Social Studies:

We have begun studying the regions of the United States and will be learning about the Native Americans from each region.
